    • Supersuckers
    • Man, there's nothing like good, old fashioned, rock and roll... add a bit of industry resentment to that with a double-shot of cynicism, and you get one of the best "new" rock bands going. This album

    • The Who
    • Quadrophenia is everything that Tommy wanted to be, a rock opera that told a story, but one where every song could still stand alone. It was also Pete Townshend's farewell tribute to the Mod

Apple’s iPod, iTunes Win Dutch INDEX Design Award

Apple's iPod and iTunes have won a joint INDEX: Award, a new design and innovation award handed out in Copenhagen, Denmark every four years. (Scroll down the page to see Apple's entry.) The awards' Web site notes that "Apple devised a solution [to music piracy] that is as noteworthy for the ingenuity of its business model as it is for the high design 'coolness' of the product."

The Web site added: "Together, iPod and iTunes challenges the whole audio industry by creating a completely new business model that resolves the decade-long battle between the music industry and the on-line file sharing community. And this may set a precedent for the video industry as well."

The first annual INDEX: Awards were announced this month, with Apple among the five inaugural winners. According to the INDEX: Web site, the organizers want to showcase "the kind of design that considerably improves life for large numbers of people. We call it Design to Improve Life."
