BW: iPod Nano Packs a Punch

The iPod nano provides beautiful music and video in a tiny package, according to Business Week. The only regret was that it doesn’t have more storage.

Arik Hesseldahl said that it all makes sense now why the iPod nano has become the most popular iPod. Educated guesses put the iPod nano at half of all iPods sold.

At first, he thought that video on the nano’s 2 inch screen would be "silly." "But small has its advantages, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised after a few weeks of watching videos on the nano that I am barely aware of the screen size. The image quality is gorgeous.... It’s bright enough and clear enough that the size matters less, which is the point. The screen densitythe number of pixels crammed into each square inch of screen spaceis the highest of any iPod that Apple has ever shipped, and the end result shows it," Mr. Hesseldahl observed.

The nano’s screen brightness and resolution is so appealing that the author found himself watching TV shows during breaks at work. "Seriously. Just try it," he said. "Since it’s so small, there’s a better-than-average chance the boss won’t see it if he or she happens by while you’re watching."

About the only thing one could ask for is more storage, akin to the iPod touch. Even if the nano were a little thicker to accommodate 16 GB, he could tolerate it.

So far, Mr. Hesseldahl has relied on the massive storage of his iPod classic. "But for sheer multimedia portability it’s hard to beat the new nano," he concluded.
