Beatles Digital Deal "Virtually Settled"

A deal to bring The Beatles catalog to a digital download service near you is "virtually settled," according to Billboard Magazine. The magazine said it would be publishing an interview today, Friday, May 11th (the interview has not yet appeared) in which Sir Paul McCartney said that such a deal was imminent.
Many media outlets have reported that as being a deal with iTunes, but the actual wording from the Billboard article specifies only "for sale online." While Apple has been after The Beatles for years, and while the band’s management company (Apple Corps) and Apple Inc. came to an agreement concerning a trademark dispute, it is not yet clear if iTunes is involved in the deal Sir Paul is talking about.
Adding further fuel to the iTunes speculation, however, is the release of Sir Paul’s new album, Memory About Full, on the Starbucks-owned Hear Music label. It was the release of Memory, which will be listed at iTunes, that Billboard was covering when it made the teaser for the broader interview to be published. Memory is scheduled to be released on June 5th, 2007.
