Blackfriars’: iPod will Have the Holiday Touch

The addition of Apple’s iPod touch will propel Apple’s holiday sales well beyond last years 21 million, according to Blackfriars’ Marketing. In addition, Apple might be able to log the revenue immediately instead of over 24 months as with the iPhone.
Apple’s secret weapon for the holiday, one that could catapult Apple over last year’s 21 million sales bonanza, is the iPod touch. Blackfriars’ Marketing believes there will be four key factors that drive the iPod touch sales:
- The iPod touch is already at the top of Amazon’s preorder sales.
- The iPod touch can be sold in every country immediately.
- Unlike the iPhone, the iPod touch will have wide channel distribution.
- The iPod touch is not locked to another company’s fortunes and has a wider market than the iPhone.
One unanswered question is whether Apple can recognize the revenue immediately. Apple must amortize its revenue over 24 months for the Apple TV and iPhone due to expected upgrades. Apple may be able to recognize revenue from the iPod touch immediately which would be a boon for Apple. Perhaps the October earnings report will clarify.
Meanwhile, those who have been forecasting trouble for the Apple during the holidays may have some explaining to do.
