Circuit City Unloads Older Sony Blu-ray Player: $199

Circuit City has dropped the price on the older Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player from $287 to under US$200. The older model has some disadvantages, but might be suitable for those who don’t need the latest and greatest.
The player, which proceeded the current BDP-S350. needs a firmware upgrade for Dolby TrueHD, loads discs slowly according to reviews, and has no Ethernet for firmware upgrades. It is also a Profile 1.0 player.

However, it does have HDMI output and upconverts to as high as 1080p.
As the holidays approach, it’s likely that manufacturers and retailers will be offering Blu-ray players at very attractive prices. As with this model, the last generation players will get steep price reductions to clear out inventory.
Sony has a good reputation for its Blu-ray players, but in this case, customers should be aware of what they’re getting -- and not getting -- for their $200.00.
