Cisco, Apple Extend iPhone Negotiations
Thursday, February 15th, 2007 at 2:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Cisco has agreed to extend the negotiation deadline with Apple Inc. over the use of the iPhone name. Computerworld reports that both companies are working to reach an agreement over the trademarked name by Wednesday, February 21.
Apple and Cisco previously agreed on a February 15 deadline, but were unable to complete the negotiation details in time.
Both companies are negotiating over the use of the "iPhone" name - a trademark Cisco has owned since 2000 when it bought Infogear. Cisco representative state that the company is willing to work with Apple over the use of the name, and is looking for some type of "interoperability" agreement.
Apple announced its iPhone product that combines an iPod, Internet device, and cell phone in a single product during Macworld Expo in January. The multimedia mobile phone will be available in the United States in June.
