Dell Drops Plans for Zing Player

PC maker Dell planned on jumping back into the portable MP3 player game this holiday season with its Zing, but those plans are on hold, and the iPod competitor may get scuttled completely, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Dell had hoped to get its digital media player on the market in time for holiday sales, but so far the device hasn’t materialized. One unnamed source close to the matter claimed that the player has been put on hold indefinitely, and that Dell plans to focus instead on software that downloads and organizes music and movies for PCs.
Despite the decision to drop the Zing player, Dell’s retail boss, Michael Tatelman, thinks they still have some exciting products on the way, but probably not until after the holidays. "You’ll see some very sexy products coming out of Dell," he said.
It looks like -- at least for now -- Apple’s iPod is won’t face any threat from Dell.
