DirecTV Planning HD DVR with 100 Hours Storage

DirectTV plans to deliver a new set-top-box/DVR, called the HR21 Pro, which has the capacity for 100 hours of HD video, according to Multichannel News.
The unit will be manufactured by Samsung, and production is scheduled to start at the end of October. Just when the unit will be in consumers hands is unknown. Also, distribution and retail pricing have not been set.
Features include 100 hours of MPEG-4 HD video, two low-noise fans, HDMI output, and an optical HDMI transmitter for other installations near the base unit. DirecTV claimed this feature will be unique in the industry. In addition, the unit is rack mountable for professional installtions in home theaters.
While the target may be aimed at home theater enthusiasts and installers, it also fits in with DirecTV’s fall campaign which emphasizes many more HD channels than ever before.
