FastMac’s New iPod Battery Offers Up to 70% More Capacity
Sunday, June 19th, 2005 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Salinas, Calif.-based FastMac on Monday introduced a new iPod battery upgrade that uses nanoparticle technology the company calls TruePower, which protects the battery's internal lithium crystal matrix from power spikes caused when the user turns on the MP3 player's backlight or performs other actions that cause sudden power draws. FastMac explained in a press release that those power spikes degrade the battery's capacity and life, leading to the short battery life problems experienced by some iPod owners.
FastMac said that its new battery upgrade features up to 70% more capacity than the batteries provided by Apple, with up to 7.5 times as many charge cycles available. The battery is compatible with all first-, second- and third-generation iPods; a two-year warranty is included. Upgrades for first- and second generation iPods are US$39.95 while upgrades for third-generation iPods are $29.95. They come with the necessary tools and installation instructions. For $49.95 more, FastMac will install the battery -- that price includes prepaid three-way shipping and a 48-hour turnaround time.
