FraKtus Offers eXo iTunes Visualizer

FraKtus announced Sunday the release of eXo, a visualizer for iTunes. The software acts as an iTunes plugin, offers full hardware acceleration, and uses OpenGL for generating 3D images. For 2D effects, eXo uses procedural texture generation, and the eXo Web site said that the number of 2D and 3D layers is limited only by one's GPU (the processor on your graphics card).

Some features, as listed by FraKtus:

  • Uses XML to load description, so it's very flexible
  • Has a mathematical parser to evaluate expressions for all behaviour (particles, colors, waveform...)
  • Can load 3D shapes in the XML description
  • Has a full modular 3D shape synthesizer, really fun to explore!
  • A preset system allow to store effect descriptions and to reload them within a simple statement

The visualizer comes with about 40 different scripts that will run randomly. It's also possible to select them manually through the preference dialog or using keys.

eXo is a free download, and is Mac OS X-only. iPO has asked the developer if he will be releasing a version for Windows. This story will be updated once we have received an answer. The following are some reduced-size screenshots we took of eXo in action.
