Frisky Dingo

When my kids were wee, they watched He-Man: Masters of the Universe. I was never fond of He-Man or many of the cartoons of the 1980s; to me they seemed watered down stereotypes created purely for the marketing of toys (in fact, that's just what He-Man was). They didn't possess the inventiveness of the early Wile E Coyote, or the vinegar and oil camaraderie of the early Tom and Jerry cartoons. Most of what served as Saturday morning fare in the 1980s was a vapid, mind-numbing waste of time.

But hey, the kids liked them.

Now we have Frisky Dingo.

Frisky Dingo? Is that a joke? Is that one of those Aussie wild dogs in heat?

Not quite. Frisky Dingo is a new series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, and it's an 11 minute snicker of the the oddest kind. The iTunes Store features the entire first season and is offering the first episode, "Meet Killface", as a free download.

Killface? Imagine Skeletor, the bone-headed nemesis of He-Man, remove his hooded cloak and scepter and you've got a dead ringer for Killface. They both must have come from the same gene pool because they both are bent on destroying humanity. Where He-Man and his pals kept Skeletor in check, Killface's arch enemy is Awesome-X.

Skeletor (left) and Killface (right). I believe we have a body-double.

Though Skeletor and Killface share the same skull head and malevolent intentions, any similarities between them stops there.

In the free iTunes episode we catch up with Killface as he attempts to advertise his latest plans for the imminent destruction of Earth, but, as with all projects of such magnitude, Killface is hampered by budgets and contractors problems, and his despondent and incoherent son, Simon.

Killface is a businessman; a murderous, kidnapping businessman, but one nonetheless. You've got to admire a man, or creature, who can make the tough business decisions and execute them on the spot, and who can adjust rapidly to change while still maintaining a meaningful relationship with his son. (Are you listening Dr. Evil?)

Skeletor couldn't manage a lemonade stand much less parent an offspring. (Maybe that's why She-Ra shunned him...)

At any rate, Frisky Dingo is well worth a watch. Check it out at the iTunes Store.
