Globe Telecom Lands Philippines iPhone Deal, Bharti Airtel Gets Massive Indian Market

Globe Telecom announced Monday that it would be bringing the iPhone to market in the Philippines "later this year." Bharti Airtel also announced it had landed the massive Indian market for the iPhone, also specifying only that it would happen "later this year." Both companies also stressed that it was the iPhone 3G that was signed, a phone Apple is bringing to the U.S. starting July 11th of this year.

Both countries were a part of Steve Jobs’ WWDC keynote presentation, where he counted off all the countries the iPhone was being officially sold, listing the Philippines and India towards the end of the list of 70 countries around the world where Apple was selling it’s device. When India was shown on the map, a large contingent of Indian developers on hand for the keynote let out a loud cheer.

While the announcements for both countries was included in the keynote via the above-mentioned "It’s a Small World" presentation, the details of both these markets were announced via press release. For the record, Globe Telecom is "excited" about working with Apple and the iPhone 3G, while Bharti Airtel is "delighted."

For its part, Apple is "thrilled" to be working with its two new partners.

Look for specific dates to be announced for both markets once the U.S. release takes place.
