Harvard Offers Audio, Video Podcasts of Computer Science Class

Harvard University offers free, publicly available audio and video podcasts of a Computer Science course taught at its Extension School. Harvard Crimson writer Lulu Zhou reported on Monday that this is a first for the Ivy League institution, with 67 registered students currently taking the class taught by graduate David J. Malan.
Harvard launched the audio podcast in September, when Apple added the podcast feature to iTunes, and implemented the video version immediately after the 5G iPod debuted. It's been in iTunes' top 100 podcasts list since its premiere, Mr. Malan told Ms. Zhou.
"Since students have historically taken advantage of recordings of lectures ... we simply wanted to make the course accessible to students in a more portable format," he told the reporter. "E-1 may now, in fact, be the first computer science course you can take while jogging."
Not only have students taking the class appreciated the podcasts, but Mr. Malan said that listeners and viewers from around the world have sent e-mails thanking him for giving everyone access to the lectures.
