IM Software for iPhone Emerging
Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
The iPhone comes with SMS but no Instant Messaging (IM). Two contenders have recently surfaced that make up for that deficiency in the iPhone.
The first is FlickIM. It is currently in Beta. Eve so, it doesnt have quite all the functionality one would wish for, according to Gizmodo on Wednesday. FlickIM supports only AIM and the user cannot scroll back to see previous text in this version.
The first company to offer IM on the iPhone was BeeJive with JiveTalk 0.8.2 (currently in alpha).
JiveTalk offers links to all the users existing IM accounts on AIM/iChat, Yahoo, GoogleTalk, ICQ, and Jabber. It uses the iPhone data plan, so there are no per message charges.
The iPod showed vendors that theres money to be made with accessories. The iPhone is opening new doors as a new platform, and if users want something on their iPhones, chances are, there will be a company ready to supply it.
