"In Rainbows" Available at iTunes

Radiohead’s In Rainbows joined the ranks at Apple’s iTunes Store on Wednesday, only a week after the album made its debut at the Amazon MP3 music download store. Amazon, however, didn’t have as much of a lead as it appears because the album wasn’t actually available for download until January 1, bringing it in line with the iTunes release.

In Rainbows at the iTunes Store is available in iTunes Plus format -- meaning 256kbps AAC and without any copy protection -- and includes a digital booklet with the complete album purchase for US$9.99. At Amazon MP3, the album is encoded in the older MP3 format at 256kbps and does not include the digital booklet, but costs $7.99.
Radiohead’s appearance at the iTunes Store marks the first time a mainstream band has side stepped the record labels to bring its work to Apple’s online media download service.
