Kensington Debuts RDS FM Transmitter for iPod

Kensington on Monday introduced an RDS (Radio Data System) FM transmitter/car charger for iPod, which enables song and artist information to be transmitted to a car stereo’s RDS-enabled display. RDS technology enables radio broadcasters to use an FM sub-frequency to transmit text messages along with a normal audio signal.

Kensington’s new transmitter also features ClearFM technology, which presents a cleaner audio signal than other FM transmitters, three memory pre-sets, and an on/off switch to prevent car battery drain. It works with all iPods that have a dock connector, except the 3G version. The RDS feature works only with an iPod nano or video iPod.

Pricing is US$89.99, and Kensington expects to ship the new product this month.
