Microsoft Announces Zune Revamp Ahead of Apple Media Event
Monday, September 8th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Microsoft announced new features for its Zune media players ahead of Apples "Lets Rock" media event on Tuesday. The company will be adding the ability to tag songs from the players built-in FM radio, and then purchase them from the Zune Marketplace over Wi-Fi.
The Redmond-based company also announced that it will be introducing 16GB and 120GB capacity players along with models sporting all black or blue and silver color schemes.

Microsoft jumped the gun on Apples "Lets Rock" media event scheduled for Tuesday morning in San Francisco. Apple is expected to introduce new iPod models along with a major update to its iTunes application.
Microsofts move was likely a preemptive strike to show that its Zune line up is a true iPod competitor and not just another "me too" media player. Consumer pocketbooks, however, might disagree with Microsofts assessment considering the Zune holds only a tiny fraction of the portable media player market compared to the ubiquitous iPod.
