Microsoft Continues to be Evasive About Origami Project
Thursday, March 2nd, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
A Microsoft spokesman said that its enigmatic Origami product will be discussed for 30 seconds during the company's main press conference at the upcoming CeBIT trade show. According to a Macworld UK article, a message in the source code of the Origami Web site simply says: "Origami Project: the Mobile PC running Windows XP."
The article also said that "Microsoft partners Intel and Samsung will provide the most information to Cebit attendees about Origami, since Microsoft has not designed any new hardware for the project." Next Thursday, March 9, Intel plans to discuss the project in more depth during a press conference.
More details were originally scheduled to be revealed on March 2, according to press reports at the beginning of this week, but that was later pushed back to next week. A video that appeared online last weekend, but was later yanked, showed the device in use playing music, showing photos, downloading GPS data, sending e-mails and accessing files on a PC. Origami was even shown playing Halo, a game created by Microsoft-owned Bungie Studios.
Microsoft has said that it plans to take on Apple's iPod, but it's unclear if Origami, which is much bigger than the popular MP3 player, is its response to the phenomenon.
