Most European Customers Unhappy with 3G Video

In a survey of 22,000 Europeans using a 3G video enabled mobile phone, more than half didn't think TV on their phone was worth the effort. Forty-five percent of those dropping the service were due to the cost and 24 percent dropped due to quality and reliability problems. The survey was commissioned by Tellabs and the results were reported at The Register on Monday.
The report said that users who dropped the TV service didn't enjoy the experience and didn't have a lot of time for it.
These results come at a time when analysts are looking very carefully at the design decisions Apple made with the Apple iPhone and the associated services. The "killer app" for the iPhone is making calls according to Steve Jobs. A large library of videos and the watching of TV seem to be of minimal importance on the iPhone compared to listening to music, e-mail and small-scale Web surfing for information. The European study provides support for the idea that Apple has developed a good feel for what their customers really need from their mobile phones.
