Motorola Drops iTunes From New Rokr, Adds iRadio
Monday, January 2nd, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Motorola announced the next version of its Rokr cell phone, the Rokr E2, on Tuesday, and this version won't include iTunes. The Rokr E2, according to Reuters, will ship instead with Motorola's own software, which is designed to work with Motorola's new iRadio service.
The Rokr E2 won't be as limited as the Rokr E1. Instead of holding only 100 songs, it can store up to 70 hours of music. The E2 will also be designed to connect to home and car stereo systems wirelessly.
iRadio will go head to head with the XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio subscription services, offering 435 commercial-free radio channels for about US$7 a month. Users can download channels to their computer, then transfer them to the Rokr E2, and also play them on their home or car stereo via a Bluetooth adapter.
Motorola has not announced an official launch date for either product, but will be demonstrating iRadio at CES in Las Vegas. CES runs from January 5 through January 8, 2006, in Las Vegas.
