Moving Music on Vinyl to an iPod

A modern USB turntable is one way to get music off old vinyl records and into MP3 digital format according to a review posted at the New York Times Sunday.
The device tested was the Ion iTTUSB Turntable. Basically, the device is a record turntable brought up-to-date and bundled with software and a USB interface.
While advanced audiophiles may have expensive equipment to do this or others may have utilized a service, this device is a great way for the non-technical user to get some favorite music off those dusty vinyl records and into the iPod. It works by using a pre-amplifier to amplify the sound, then digitizes it, cleans up the noise, and the music is sent out through a USB 1.1 port to a PC or a Mac.
The author described her experience with setting up and using the turntable which sells for under $200. The current state of the software, called Audacity, and plans the company has for a future improvements to the software were also described.
Now, all those Tony Bennett fans can go into the attic, pull out that box of vinyl records, and get to work.
