Native IM Client (Beta) for iPhone Revealed

A native Instant Messaging client for the iPhone is being developed at the Apollo IM project, according to Tech.Blorge on Monday. It is still in Beta.

While there are several IM clients for the iPhone that use Web 2.0 technology, the iPhone doesn’t ship with a native IM client. That’s being remedied by those at the Apollo IM project.

The catch is that the software requires the user to hack the iPhone by installing Installer.app. This is a GUI installer for iPhone, and any iPhone application that adhere to the Installer protocol can then be installed on the iPhone.

"Apollo IM is currently getting past its beta stage, with really no configuration options available at all. Unfortunately, for all you MSN, Google, and Yahoo fiends, it apparently only works with AIM right now, and it signs off when you exit to another application or the home screen," according to Tech.Blorge.
