This timeless masterpiece is little known, but it has inspired almost as many bands as The Modern Lovers' own inspiration -- and only slightly better known -- The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Netgear Announces Digital Entertainer HD
Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Netgear announced in Wednesday the immediate availability of their Digital Entertainer HD, model EVA8000, which allows Mac and PC users to stream video content on their computer to their SD or HDTV.
The Digital Entertainer is similar to the Apple TV is some ways. However, the details are different. Using an 802.11g link and AppleShare, the Digital Entertainer can connect to a Mac and see its file system. The device then scans the Mac, catalogs the video files, and presents them to the user. These video files can then be selected for viewing on an SD or HDTV.
Video file formats supported are: MPEG 1,2,4, WMV, XviD, and H.264. Image formats supported are: JPEG, BMP, PNG, and TIFF. Video can be scaled from its original resolution up to 1080p and output via HDMI. Component video out is also supported. NTSC output is also supported via S-Video or RCA/composite connectors. Many audio formats are also supported.
The capture and display of YouTube streaming is currently supported only on PCs, but the product manager, Jamie Ching, told TMO that additional capabilities for capturing and displaying video streamed to the host computer are being evaluated for both PC and Mac.
The model EVA8000 only supports 802.11g, and this model cannot be upgraded internally. Future plans for 802.11n will likely include an external device. For those users who want to stream HD, Netgear provides a "Powerline HD" product that can use household electrical wiring to deliver up to 200 Mbps between the computer and the Digital Entertainer.
The Digital Entertainer differs from the Apple TV in that it can access the file system on the Mac via AppleShare and display many different file formats for immediate output and display. Apple TV users are limited to what is currently in their iTunes library or the files they can convert into MPEG 4/H.264 and drag into iTunes. The Digital Entertainer also supports Standard Definition TVs. However, a key limitation is the use of 802.11g.
The Digital Entertainer, model EVA8000, is priced at US$399. It is available immediately through select e-commerce sites.
