O2 Sells Out iPhone 3G Pre-sales

U.K. interest in the iPhone 3G is so high that O2 had to stop taking pre-order sales the same day the company launched the offer. Customers that were lucky enough to sign up for the pre-order offer will get their new iPhone 3G delivered via courier on July 11, the day the combination iPod and smartphone officially goes on sale.
In addition to getting the iPhone 3G delivered to their door, pre-order customers will be able to activate the handheld through iTunes.
O2 didn’t reveal how many units were available for the pre-order offer, but it appears that the inventory set aside wasn’t enough to meet customer demand. The cell carrier is advising customers to check its Web site on July 10 for more information.
Just like the original iPhone roll out, the iPhone 3G launch is drawing a high level of interest among consumers and investors. Also like the first launch, lines began forming well ahead of the product release. In New York city, some customers began lining up on July 4.
Apple’s iPhone 3G is set to go on sale in about 20 countries on July 11. It will offer 3G wireless data, include a built-in GPS, support Microsoft Exchange, and more.
