PCPro: iPod touch is Brilliant Marriage of Software and Hardware
Monday, November 5th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
While there are some "impracticalities," the Apple iPod touch is a simply brilliant marriage of software and hardware, according to PCPRO in the UK. Its also the finest device for the handheld Internet yet seen.
The iPod touch OS was described as stunning. "Its beautifully animated -- everything spins, fades or slides into view, which not only lets you know precisely how you got to the window youre at, but also gives a tiny shiver of excitement at the completion of little tasks: not something often said about opening a browser window," Dave Stevenson wrote for the December issue.
The touch screen was described as the finest seen. "Theres also some clever technology behind it: type hell for instance, and the iPod will assume youre going for hello and increases the area around the o key, so even if you do make a small mistake youll probably end up with the correct result," Mr. Stevenson added.
Of course the iPod touch plays music as well. Since it automatically grabs your iTunes account info from the host, its easy for the user to download music from Wi-Fi Music store. However, for some reason, free podcasts are blocked. Also, for now, the user cant add a new appointment directly.
The iPod touch isnt the simplest music player of all the iPods, the reviewer noted, "...but when it comes to handheld internet, the touch pulls the rug from under every other device weve seen."
