Panasonic Teams with Google for Internet HDTVs

LAS VEGAS - Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd) and Google announced plans on Monday to bring their high-definition TV viewers quick and easy access to videos from YouTube on the next generation VIERA PZ850 line of Plasma displays.

"Panasonics new VIERA PZ850 series Plasma HDTVs with VIERA CAST will enable consumers, using the new and elegant Panasonic VIERA CAST interface, to easily browse, find and watch free videos from YouTube and view photos from their Picasa Web Albums in the comfort of their living room," Panasonic said.

No intermediate hardware will be required.

This first generation of Panasonic VIERA PZ850 series Internet-connected HDTVs are expected to ship in the spring of 2008.

The announcement parallels a similar announcement on Monday by TiVo that will allow their customers to access Internet video via its Internet connection and RSS feeds.
