Piper Jaffray Raises Estimate for Q4 iPhone Sales

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has raised his estimate for iPhones to be sold by the end of the September quarter to 5 million. That places his estimate for the total in 2008 at 13.82 million.
In a note to investors on Monday, obtained by iPO, Gene Munster said that he is incrementally more confident of his numbers for Mac, iPod and iPhone unit sales. His estimate for iPhone units was raised from 4.1 million to 5 million. The following summary chart shows his current estimate from 2007 through 2009. (Numbers in blue are still predictions and ASP = Average Selling Price.)

The total iPhone sales for 2009 from the above chart accumulates to 45 million units.
He also noted that for the first time, the iPhone will account for a meaningful percentage of booked revenue. In the quarter ending in June it was 4 percent, but in the quarter ending in September it will be 21 percent.
The Piper Jaffray analyst also reiterated his estimate for 2.8 million Macs and 11 million iPods this quarter. His rating continues to be Buy and the target rice is US$250.00.
