Poll Shows Blu-ray/HD DVD Format War a Draw
Monday, November 12th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
An on-line poll at engadgetHD, which has accumulated over 5,500 responses, suggests that the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD is now a dead heat. In addition, only about a fifth of those responding are neutral or plan to wait for a winner.
Those who are leaning towards HD DVD or who are in that camp exclusively added up to 39.2 percent. Those who are leaning towards Blu-ray or in that camp exclusively summed to 39.8 percent. About 5 percent support both and 16 percent, as of this writing, plan to wait for a winner and find DVDs "good enough."
The number of people responding so far is significant for an on-line poll like this. The results suggest that there will be no end in sight to this war, and perhaps only the reduction in price of the players that play both formats will remedy the situation. Currently, those players from Samsung and LG cost about US$1,000.
