ROKR’s 100 Song Limit Due to Firmware Limitations

The iTunes ROKR phone from Motorola has a 100 song limit, but that limit is not based on memory limitations or other physical limitations of phone. Instead, the limit is in place via firmware limitations, according to the blog of Christopher Breen at Playlist magazine.
What he didn’t note is that this limitation is most likely intended to keep the ROKR from cannibalizing sales of Apple’s full iPod product line, where even the 512 megabyte iPod shuffle can hold up 120 songs. In other words, don’t confuse the ROKR with a real iPod.
Mr. Breen has some other interesting notes about iPod nano, the ROKR, and iTunes 5, as well.
