Settlement an Option for Apple and Creative
Wednesday, July 5th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple Computer and Creative Technology stated in court documents that they are willing to end litigation against each other if a settlement can be reached. The two companies have been attacking each other with lawsuits over patents relating to portable digital music players.
In a joint report to the judge filed in Madison, Wisconsin, the companies stated they were negotiating licensing Creative's interface patent to Apple before the suits were filed, and are still willing to pursue that route, according to Bloomberg.
The report says in part "The parties will remain open to the possibility of settlement. No specific settlement discussions are planned."
The law suit stems from a claim by Creative that the iPod interface violates a patent it owns. Apple has filed suit against Creative saying the Zen maker is violating portable digital music player patents it holds. Both companies are also trying to block the import of each other's music players into the United States.
