Some Accessories Not Compatible with New iPods

Apple’s new video capable iPod does not have the traditional remote connector port that’s found on prior iPod models, making many iPod accessories incompatible with the new models. The port is an oblong slot next to the head phone jack on the top of the iPod.

Thanks to Apple’s QuickTime VR of the new iPod, it’s easy to see that there is a head phone jack and a hold button, but no remote port.

Many iPod accessories take advantage of the remote port, including Griffin’s iTrip, Belkin’s Universal Microphone Adapter, and even Apple’s own in line remote control that shipped with many iPods. Removing the remote connector port means they will not work with the new 5th Generation iPod.

Accessories that use the 30-pin dock connector on the bottom of the iPod are still compatible since Apple did not change the connector or its location.
