Starbucks, AT&T Team Up for Free Wi-Fi

Coffee giant Starbucks announced on Monday that it has teamed up with AT&T to bring free Wi-Fi access to more than 7,000 of its coffee shops in the United States. The service won’t be available for AT&T wireless customers when the service rolls out this spring, but there are plans to bring them into the fold, too.

The initial launch will include a mix of free and paid Wi-Fi services for AT&T broadband, AT&T U-verse, and Starbucks Card customers.

Starbucks Entertainment president "Our new relationship with AT&T gives us the opportunity to expand and enhance the range of digital entertainment experiences for our customers as well as our partners, including the continued rollout of the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at Starbucks."

The announcement marks a switch from Starbucks’ traditional Wi-Fi partner T-Mobile and the cell carrier’s T-Mobile HotSpot program.

AT&T and Starbucks plan on completing the rollout by the end of 2008.
