Switched Digital Video Being Deployed by Cox

Cox Communications has started to roll out Switched Digital Video set top boxes in Virgina and expects to deploy in other locations later this year, according to Multichannel News on Tuesday.
Switched Digital Video is a technology that allows a single high bandwidth signal to be transmitted to the set top box and will allow cable companies to better compete the with HD offerings from satellite carriers.
"We�re pleased with our tests of the BigBand SDV solution, particularly with the ease with which we�ve been able to integrate it with other components," said James Kelso Cox V.P. "We�re eager to begin leveraging this technology for the benefit of our customers by delivering even more programming choices."
iPO has been in contact with Cindy Parsons, V.P of Public Relations for Comcast in Colorado. She affirmed that Comcast is also preparing to deploy Switched Digital Video in the region. Some have expressed concern that SDV boxes will not operate corectly with current TiVo systems, but according to Ms. Parsons, the SDV boxes that Comcast will deploy will not intefere with the use of customer TiVos.
