T-Mobile May Win iPhone Deal in Europe

The race to win the contract as the exclusive iPhone distributor in Europe is well underway, and it appears that T-Mobile is at the top of the short list. The field looks to have been narrowed down to T-Mobile and Vodafone, but the iPhone may be a better fit with T-Mobile, according to MarketingWeek.
Gartner Research Director Martin Gutberlet sees a potential conflict for Vodafone since the company already has its own online music service called Vodafone Live! - a service the company would likely want iPhone users to take advantage of. Apple, however, already has the successful iTunes Store and wants owners of its combination iPod and smart phone to download music and videos from its own service, making a deal with T-Mobile easier to swing.
AT&T already has an exclusive contract to distribute the iPhone in the United States, and should be able to start offering the phone to customers by the end of June. Apple plans to start selling the iPhone in Europe later this year.
