TiVo’s Losses Lower Than Expected

TiVo beat expectations and reduced its 4Q loss better than expected, according to the New York Times on Thursday. The company cut its marketing costs and pushed its new, less expensive HD TiVo.

The company’s net loss decreased to US$6.4M for the quarter from $19.4M a year ago. Net revenue fell slightly from $76.9M to $74.1M.

TiVo has been focusing on its new, lower cost HD unit and pressing ahead in agreements with Comcast, which is now operational, and Cox, which is in the trial stage.

Stock (NASDAQ: TIVO) rose briefly on Thursday to over US$8.50, but has settled in morning trading at about $8.00.
