At first, Ray LaMontagne might strike you as just another breathy-voiced knockoff of folk/rock guitarists like John Mayer and Jack Johnson. But he's actually got a better voice than either, he tell

Time Gadget of the Week: 80GB iPod
Wednesday, September 20th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple's new enhanced 5G 80GB iPod earned Time's Gadget of the Week top slot, and the second generation iPod nano was a contender. Time's Wilson Rothman said "I thought the 80GB iPod was more situated at the center of Apple's big picture: movie downloads at the iTunes Store and a future in the living room. Once I had an 80GB iPod in my hand, I discovered that the wait for a living-room option wasn't as far off as Jobs had indicated."
Mr. Rothman was pleasantly surprised when he connected the new iPod to a 42-inch high-definition plasma TV and found that the iPod's video output was at least as good as standard definition broadcast TV. He also downloaded a movie from the iTunes Store and watched part of it on his MacBook. The iPod knew how much he had already watched, and picked up playback where he left off.
Apple's new earbuds rounded out the Gadget of the Week. The new style, he said, fit his ears better, and seem to be more comfortable than the original iPod earbuds they replace.
