United Airlines Tunes in and Takes Off

United Airlines has announced that soon, some United passengers on overseas flights will have access to a new, personalized in-flight entertainment system with iPod and iPhone connectivity and a 15iinch screen
Customers will be able to enjoy their individual content on a 15.4-inch personal television, all while the iPod or iPhone charges.
"Our guests may now watch or listen to what they want, when they want with programming they choose," said Graham Atkinson, United Airlines - executive vice president and Chief Customer Officer. "United will continue to provide services and technology that makes our customers’ travel experiences more relaxed and enjoyable."

The first flight offering the new service will be the Washington D.C. to Zurich route. Over the next two years, United said, their entire fleet of wide-body international airliners will be fitted with the service which features an iPod 30-pin connector and a 15.4 inch (39 cm) screen.
The catch is that the service will be offered to first and business class only. Coach passengers will still have to enjoy their iPods and iPhone in the normal way and won’t have the charging service.
The service was developed by Panasonic for UAL. Previously, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand announced the same service.
