WSJ: Music on Mobile Phones Threaten Apple, iPod Dominance

The future of Apple and the future success of the iPod will be threatened more and more as cellular telephones with the ability to play and download music become more popular, a published report said Sunday.
In its Investment Insight column in the financial news weekly Barron's Sunday (subscription required), columnist Bill Alpert wrote that despite the growth and success of the iPod digital media device and the iTunes Music Store (iTMS), "Apple's polishers seem to be missing a looming threat: Wireless-phone companies are teaming with the music industry to make most mobile phones into music players.
"While optimists think Apple could sell 45 million iPods next year, mobile-phone makers will sell more than 750 million handsets, the report said. "All those phones could weigh on the iPod's growth prospects -- and Apple's premium stock valuation. Cellphone users won't need to lug around a second gadget to have their music"
The report is similar to another report in The Wall Street Journal last week.
