Wal-Mart Accidentally Lists Zune Price

Big box retailer Wal-Mart inadvertently listed Microsoft's Zune media player, along with pricing information, on its Web site. According to ABC News, the player was priced at US$284.
Wal-Mart spokesperson Amy Colella commented "This price was incorrectly and inadvertently listed at Walmart.com." Shortly after Web site visitors discovered the mix up, Wal-Mart removed the player.
Microsoft is hoping its 30GB Zune media player will stand up against Apple's iPod and take marketshare where other digital media players have failed. Based on price and reputation, however, that may prove to be a difficult task.
Apple's 30GB video capable iPod sells for $249, $35 less than the Zune, and is available now. If Wal-Mart's price was accurate, Microsoft has to convince consumers that the unproven Zune is worth more than the iPod - which already has a solid reputation.
