X-Plane Delivers Pocket Flight Simulator
Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Last week, Laminar Research released X-Plane 9 for the iPhone, iPod touch, bringing the first full featured flight simulator to the Apple mobile platforms.
X-plane for the Mac, Windows and Linux desktop has been well regarded by pilots in addition to being FAA certified. However, users have been amazed at the graphics power brought to bear in the iPhone for a handheld flight simulator and the developer himself commented how shell shocked he was the the power of the iPhone.
A former USAF jet pilot told TMO he had one word for it. "OMIGOSH!!!!"

Several aircraft are available to chose from, including a small business jet, and flight control is achieved by tilting the iPhone.
According to the iTunes description, X-plane lets you experiment with different times of day, weather and sky conditions and turbulence. Also, the user can view out the cockpit or see the aircraft from an external viewpoint.
A demo has been posted on YouTube.
X-Plane for iPhone requires OS X iPhone 2.0 or later. It is 6.2 MB and priced at US$9.99.
