Zune Name Hits Below the Belt In Canada
Thursday, September 14th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Microsoft spent time researching and studying focus groups before landing on the Zune name for its upcoming media player and music download service, but it chose to disregard warnings that the product name might draw smirks and giggles from French-Canadian consumers. canada.com reports that some focus group participants pointed out that "Zune" sounds like French slang words used to describe people's naughty bits.
The slang term "zoune," which describes what boys have, and "bizoune," which describes what boys want, are apparently relatively harmless terms and are often used with children instead of more adult-oriented slang.
A Microsoft spokeswoman said "It's quite a stretch." She did not specify if it was a big stretch a little stretch, or if the size of the stretch really mattered.
No information is available yet on how many people have tried to use "Is that a Zune in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?" as a pickup line, or if any kids have been punished at school for saying "I'll show you my Zune if you show me yours."
