Apple Korea Recalls iPod Nano Over Battery Concerns

Apple Korea has agreed to recall first generation iPod nano units relating to battery explosions in the device, according to The Korea Herald. The paper said that some 155,000 of the devices were sold in South Korea from October 2005 to December 2006, and four of battery explosions have been reported since December of 2008.
The announcement came from the South Korean government, which cited an agreement with Apple regarding the recall. "Customers who are concerned about possible overheating of the battery can get it exchanged," Park In-kyu, an official with the Korea Agency for Technology & Standards, told the newspaper.
The article also noted that Apple is currently in talks with KT and SK Telecom, South Korea's two largest telecoms, to bring the iPhone to the Korean market, a move that could have helped nudge Apple into agreeing to issue the recall. The Herald said that Apple at first resisted such calls from Korean regulatory agencies.
