Beatles on iTunes: Delayed Again

Beatles fans hoping to be able to download the Fab Four's music collection from the iTunes Store will have to keep practicing patience now that record label negotiations have slowed down again. Beatles alum Sir Paul McCartney claimed that the current round of delays rests in the hands of record executives, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"It's a bit of a sticky issue. We want it to happen," Sir Paul said. "The record company was taken over by new people quite recently, so there is a gridlock of sorts. I'd like to make it happen."

He didn't specify, however, if the negotiation delays are coming from EMI, Apple Corps, or a combination of the two.

Negotiations to bring The Beatles music library into the digital age have been dragging on for years. Once Apple Corps -- the management company for The Beatles -- and EMI settled a royalty payment dispute, and Apple Corps settled a suit a suit with Apple Inc. over music distribution, the door was open for an iTunes Store deal. Unfortunately, the talks stalled over a disagreement between EMI and Apple Corps on music download terms.

Sir McCartney said at the time "They [EMI] want something we're not prepared to give them. Hey, sounds like the music business."

“Sir McCartney” It is my understanding that this would be an improper form of address. The correct form of address for a Knight of the British Empire (or any other Knight) is “Sir Paul.” To refer to the person in print, it’s either “Sir Paul” or “Sir Paul McCartney.” “Sir McCartney” would mean that his first name is “McCartney.”
