Digg: iPhone 3.0 to Match Pre Features

Speaking at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas, Digg's Kevin Rose claimed that Apple's upcoming iPhone Software 3.0 will bring the iPhone's features in line with Palm's Pre smartphone, and that the combination iPod and smartphone will finally get copy-and-paste support. Mr. Rose made the claim during a Diggnation taping over the weekend.

Footage of Mr. Rose's comments first appeared on Australian photographer Derek Steen's Web site. The footage is laced with Mr. Rose's typical colorful descriptions and not-safe-for-work language.

According to his sources, the new iPhone software Apple will preview on Tuesday will include a feature set that matches the options found on the Palm Pre -- Palm's own smartphone that's designed to compete with the iPhone. The new software will allegedly also include the ability to copy and paste content.

He claimed that iPhone Software 3.0 won't include MMS, or multimedia messaging, which is another feature many iPhone users have been hoping for. It also won't include support for applications running in the background, nor will it include video recording support.

Apple hasn't yet revealed any of the features the new iPhone software will include, so Mr. Rose's claims amount to little more than rumor until the official announcement comes from Cupertino on Tuesday.
