Glamour Reel Little Chick-Flicks And More

Vern Seward - Free on iTunesYou know, like most guys, I like a good action flick. Give me lots of stuff blowing up, impossible car chases, some kick-butt fights and liberally sprinkle it with scantily clad and exceedingly hot women. Throw in a wisp of a story line and some good popcorn and you've got a fan in me.

But man is not entertained by action flicks alone; well, this man anyway, and every so often I like a good story. Action and bare women are optional.

Sacrilege, I know, but even the most testosterone ladened, football watching, beer drinker will admit to watching a chick-flick at least once in his life. And the honest ones will even admit to liking one or two.

A good story doesn't have to be long and contain plot twist after plot twist. It can a simple thing, a close examination of just one aspect of our existence. If presented well, a good story will leave you thinking, laughing, crying, or all the above. Most of all, it should leave you feeling...something.

With that in mind I'd like to direct your attention to three free short movies available this week at the iTunes Store.

First up, The Monday Before Thanksgiving. I'm particularly excited about this little movie because it stars Laura Dern.

(See, I've had a crush on Ms. Dern since Jurassic Park. Its a hopeless crush, she's at least 10 years my junior, looks great, and is famous. Still, stranger things have happened.)

So, what's The Monday Before Thanksgiving about? Well, Ms. Dern is Theresa, a woman who is questioning her life choices after the death of her mother.

Yes, this is a chick-flick. Nothing explodes and there's nothing in it more thrilling than a ride on public transportation, but watch it anyway. It's free, it's a really good story, and even fans of bare women will get a little (very little) reward.

Ms. Dern does a great job (as I knew she would) and the story does leave me thinking, and feeling. Check it out, it's not a tear-jerker, but I thinking it will stir a little emotion in you.

If The Monday Before Thanksgiving is bit too heavy for you then try The Spleenectomy.

I'll admit that there's not much of a story here, and, once again, it's a chick-flick, but this one has blood, a woman wielding a large knife, and a hot-ish blonde dressed in doctor's scrubs. See? Something for everyone.

The Spleenectomy is a lighthearted (meaning mildly humorous) tale of a wannabe actor, her annal-retentive twin sister, and a five year old with big glasses and a smile like Ralphie, the kid in A Christmas Story.

Go on, watch it. It's free and there's blood!! How bad can it be?

OK, I saved the best for last. (It was a close call, Laura, but I tend to side on the lighthearted.)

Streak is actually a lot of fun. Anyone who's been habitually on a diet will identify with the characters here, and that's a good thing.

See, Baylin's friends are diet divas. They starve themselves and chase after equally shallow men who appreciate skinny, pale, sickly looking women.

The thing is, Baylin is beginning to question this quest for thinness at any cost. Enter Drea, a free spirit who shows Baylin that there is more to life than counting calories.

There's a scene where I laughed out loud, but I won't spoil it for you. Check out Streak. Who knows, after watching you might want to.

Well, that's it for this week. Drop back next week for more peeks at free stuff at the iTunes Store.

There more free stuff (with direct links) below.
