iPhone Games Musings

While Apple CEO Steve Jobs made no mention of games for the new iPhone -- it doesn't play iPod games, since it runs on Mac OS X -- the new device certainly has plenty of potential as a new games platform, especially with its multi-touch screen, according to Wired's Leander Kahney and Pete Mortensen.
Writing for the Cult of Mac blog, the two mused that the iPhone "has the potential to be the best portable game system on the market not named 'Nintendo DS' ... There are a number of DS games that could easily be adapted [to the iPhone], and it's just made to host a new rhythm or music game that would require drumming two spots at once. It's not a threat to the DS, because its price-point is so much higher. It is a threat to crappy games for cell phones, which often cost $6 and suck.
However, what if the iPhone's multi-touch screen comes to the iPod? "Suddenly, you have the world's premiere media player and rising games star in a $250 package," they wrote. "That beats the PSP any day and hounds the DS tomorrow."
