iPhone Owner Installs Custom Ringtone

An iPhone owner has been able to upload a custom ringtone to his iPhone with software of his own devising. He plans to release the software, according to Engadget on Thursday.
Mr. Chris Hughes said "I’ve been playing with my iPhone, and I thought I’d show you what I’ve been working on."

What he was able to do was upload a new ringtone, from the Fox TV series "24" telephone ring in the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU). The video demonstrating the ringtone after installation is at YouTube.
No doubt, Apple was expecting this level of consumer enthusiasm and ingenuity. In time, all kinds of interesting software tools and hacks will become available for the iPhone. What will be more interesting to watch is how, if at all, Apple reacts, and the impact projects like this will have on the integrity and security of the iPhone.
