iPhone Searches Surpass iPod

Apple's iPhone announcement during Macworld Expo earlier in January left people thirsty for more information, and now online searches for the smartphone have surpassed iPod searches. During the week ending January 13, the share of online searches for "iPhone" was greater than the weekly share of searches for "iPod" any time in 2006, according to data from Hitwise.

The trend continued into the week ending January 20, and the most common search phrases with "iPhone" show exactly what users are most interested in. Two of the most common search phrases are "iphone cost," and "iphone price."

The information indicates that there is a strong consumer interest in Apple's phone, even though it won't be available for a few months. If interest translates into demand, Apple is likely to have another hit product in its lineup.
