iPhone Update 2.0.1 Raises Issues for Jailbreak, Unlock

Now that Apple has released OS X iPhone 2.0.1, users who have unlocked or jailbroken their iPhone will have to decide if it’s safe to apply the update or whether they should wait until the PwnageTool can deal with the new Apple Update, according to Alex Zaharov-Reutt at ITWire on Tuesday.

The problem is that those users who have unlocked 2.0 iPhones are also hoping that that 2.0.1 update will fix a lot of troublesome bugs. However, the 2.0.1 update might also have additional security that will delay the iPhone Dev Team’s release of the next version of PwnageTool [and now WinPwn.]

Mr. Zaharov-Reutt described in some detail how he was able to safely apply the iPhone 2.0.1 update and keep his iPhone working. "But now that 2.0.1 is here, the allure of bug fixes is almost irresistible, although upgrading comes with the loss of the jailbreak, at least for now," he wrote.

The three part article is complex and not for the faint of heart who haven’t delved into this process before. However, for those who are familiar with the PwnageTool and want to learn how another user dealt with the situation, the article is indeed informative.

The ITWire author reminded his readers that "any attempt you do at trying the same is at your own risk!"
