iPod Hi-Fi: Time Gadget of the Week

Time has recognized Apple's new iPod Hi-Fi as its Gadget of the Week. Wilson Rothman compared the iPod Hi-Fi to similar offerings from Bose and Klipsch, and commented "Whereever one chooses to put the thing, it will certainly sound terrific. Hi-Fi can get a lot louder than the Bose and still maintain the clarity of its sound."
He noted that it offers good stereo separation, but wasn't quite sure who would want to load up the 14.5 pound speaker system with D-cell batteries and cart it around. He also pointed out that lower quality audio files may show their imperfections when played through the iPod Hi-Fi since the speakers offer enough clarity to reveal imperfections in audio file compression.
The iPod Hi-Fi is priced at US$349, and is available from the Apple Store and other Apple retailers.
